What could be scarier than an all-night “Horrorthon”?
To save their struggling film department, a group of college students organises an all-night horror movie marathon at the long-abandoned Dreamland Theatre. Featuring classic gimmicks inspired by the golden age of theatrical exhibition, the event promises a night of vintage scares and cult cinema.
For student Maggie Butler, however, the festival stirs unsettling memories and recurring nightmares connected to Possessor, an obscure horror film whose final screening ended in tragedy years before. As Maggie begins to unravel the mystery surrounding the film’s creator, Lanyard Gates, strange events begin to unfold inside the theatre. One by one, members of the organising team are targeted by a killer whose methods echo the gruesome gimmicks being celebrated on screen.
With the audience unaware that the horror has become all too real, Maggie must uncover the truth behind Possessor before the final reel comes to an end.
But of course… a nightmare ensures.
Popcorn has earned its reputation as one of the genre’s most inventive cult movies.
